Medical Mandate for JLV Memorial Fund
The JLV Memorial Fund was founded in 2008 on the behalf and honor of José Luis Vela, for the educational outreach to men — “for early screening” — on all types of men’s related health and mental awareness issues.
Our mission
Be aware, protect.
The Fund is an advocate for men's education and outreach for early screening of all cancers. A grassroots men's program, but also for everyone needing mental health and health awareness.
The Memorial Fund for Men's Cancer Awareness was created because we all know a father, husband, uncle, brother, son, or friend that has gone, or will go through the cancer experience. The Memorial Fund is for them and the men that have not heard our message: Be aware, protect. Guys, get checked!

Know when to get checked
Screening starts earlier than most men think.
Prostate cancer screening is recommended for men 55 and older.
If your father or brother has had prostate cancer, start at 40.
A PSA blood test measures how much prostate-specific antigen is in your blood. Normal levels vary with age, race, and risk factors, so results are read against your own history.
Make an appointment with your primary care physician today. Home test kits are also available online and at most drug stores.
